Record Turnout Boosts 15th Armadillo Classic Past $140,000

Event Has Raised more than $1.4 Million in 15-year history

At lunchtime of the 2014 Texas Roadhouse Armadillo Classic, Texas Roadhouse President Scott Colosi took the microphone and made three tremendous announcements — that with more than 300 golfers this year the annual outing had a record turnout, that the event was on pace to raise more than $140,000 again this year, and that in it's history the Armadillo Classic had contributed more than $1.4 million to Special Olympics.

It was no surprise that the Armadillo Classic — long one of the best golf fundraising events on a very crowded calendar — had a big day on behalf of Special Olympics Kentucky. Bigger and better has been the trajectory of the Armadillo Classic since its inception. The 15th edition did not disappoint.

Texas Roadhouse President Scott Colosi announced the day's preliminary results during lunch.

Once again there were morning and afternoon flights with both sessions packed. SOKY athletes were on hand to help golfers in both sessions out on one of their holes. In the morning it was 2014 USA Games golfer Tee Salinas taking a turn putting with the Classic Players. In the afternoon, Lexington's Morgan Turner helped out.

Between sessions, golfers were all treated to some legendary Texas Roadhouse food.

In addition to the golf, Texas Roadhouse gave away two incredible trips to two lucky golfers. One was a trip to San Diego that included air fare and hotel accommodations. The other was a one-night trip to Chicago via private jet, hotel and a $500 Visa gift card for spending money. The Chicago trip was won by Tony Bryant of Walmart who organizes the Walmart-SOKY Golf Classic.

Our thanks to everyone who spent a beautiful day on the golf course again this year to support our athletes. It is great to see so many of the same faces and same companies at the Armadillo Classic each year.

We also want to thank the wonderful people at Texas Roadhouse who continue to do such amazing work in support of our athletes. In addition to the Armadillo Classic, Texas Roadhouse supports events like the Plane Pull, Polar Plunge and Big Brown Truck Pull, and Texas Roadhouse team members ("Roadies") volunteer at a number of Special Olympics competitions. We are thrilled to have them as one of our Year-Round partners and we are already looking forward to the 2015 Texas Roadhouse Armadillo Classic!
