Throughout the month of June, the Lexington Legends will continue their strong history of support for Special Olympics athletes in Kentucky by sponsoring the “Dimes to Dollars” program. During every home game in June, collection buckets will be set up inside the main entrance to Applebee’s Park and Legends fans will be encouraged to toss in their loose change or other donations, with 100% of the proceeds going to fund Special Olympics programs throughout the state.

In addition to being a “Dimes to Dollars” day, June 18 will also be Special Olympics night at the ballpark. Special Olympics athletes will participate in pre-game ceremonies and Lexington athlete Tonya Cornett will sing “God Bless America” during the 7 th Inning Stretch.

“One of the best parts of working for the Legends is that we are able to team up with tremendous organizations such as Special Olympics Kentucky and provide a facility as well as an event for a great promotion like Dimes to Dollars,” said Legends General Manager Andy Shea.  “We hope to make this an annual occurrence!”

The “Dimes to Dollars” promotion continues years of support for Special Olympics by the Legends. Legends players and members of the front office staff have participated in numerous Special Olympics fundraising events such as the Polar Bear Plunge and the Plane Pull in previous years. The Legends also hosted the Polar Bear Plunge at Applebee’s Park for three years.

“We are thrilled that the Legends want to continue their association with our program,” said Special Olympics Kentucky Executive Vice President Trish Mazzoni. “Their support provides opportunities for people throughout the state to participate in sports and changes the lives of our athletes and their families forever. We are very excited about the potential for ‘Dimes to Dollars’ to impact even more lives in a positive way.”

Every cent collected at Applebee’s Park through “Dimes to Dollars” will go directly to Special Olympics Kentucky to support statewide sports training and competition programs for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
