Beautiful Equus Run Vineyards, recently named one of America’s top 16 hidden treasures by CNN, will be the picturesque setting for a tongue-tingling, toe-tapping good time as the award-winning Midway winery hosts the first Fire in the Vines Chili Cook-off and Concert to benefit Special Olympics Kentucky on Saturday, September 23.
The evening will get underway at 4 pm and opens with a wine and cheese tasting to whet guests' appetites for the main course. The tasting will feature Equus Run red and white wines and will run until 6:30. Guests will receive a complimentary etched Equus Run Vineyards wine glass. At 5 pm there will be more delicious reds and whites to enjoy … chili that is! Featured Chili Chefs will host the main course on the lawn in Chili Row and Special Olympics will conduct voting to bestow the
People's Choice award for best chili. An Athlete's Choice award will be determined by a panel of Special Olympics athletes and there will be a Best Booth award. Guests will also be able to enjoy casual games on the lawn including corn hole, bocce and croquet. Chili competition winners will be announced at 7 p.m.
Once the winners are announced, Kentucky singer and songwriter Brice Long takes center stage for a night of country music with a line up of songs about loving, losing and living it up! Brice grew up on a farm in Hopkinsville and was influenced by the spectrum of country’s top 40 in the 70’s and 80’s. Today, Brice loves the soulful side of country—Charlie Rich, Gary Stewart, Conway—R & B music, Al Green and the blues. Brice’s performances segue easily from honky-tonk to high-class and music fans will enjoy a soaring display of full octave leaping vocals and magnificent ballad storylines. His performance entwines gritty barroom balladry and rollicking
R & B fire! Country music fans were first introduced to Brice Long through songs like “It’s Only Monday”, “Anywhere But Here”, and his current single, “Meat and Potato Man.” He saw his first #1 single with Gary Allan’s version of “Nothing on but the Radio” and has written songs recorded by artists such as Josh Turner, Randy Travis, John Michael Montgomery and Darryl Worley.
All of the proceeds from the event will benefit Special Olympics Kentucky. Tickets are $30 in advance and can only be purchased On-Line at the Equus Run Web site. If you want to try to take the top prize in the Chili cook-off, all you need to do is download and fill out the Chili Cook-off registration packet (464k PDF).
