Nearly 60 Special Olympics equestrian athletes enjoyed a beautiful day at the Kentucky Horse Park on Sunday, October 7 for the 2007 State Equestrian Competition. By the end of the day 25 different riders had claimed gold medals in events ranging from dressage to prix caprilli.

Five athletes —Teresa Younger of Narrow Gate Sporthorses. Kaitlyn Yates of TRAIL, Ashley Hicks and Arhter Wassom of Milestones and Brenton Wilson of Double L Ranch — won multiple golds at the event.

The 2007 Special Olympics Kentucky Equestrian Competition once again gave the state's Special Olympics reiders the opportunity to compete in the world class indoor arena at the Kentucky Horse Park, the same arena thet will be used when Kentucky plays host to the 2010 World Equestrian Games.

This year's event included an unusual treat for the athletes as well. The Cowgirl Express presicison riding team was on the grounds at the Horse Park for the day and came in to do an exhibition for the athletes and fans during the competition.
